Paper Abstract:      Infrastructure Services Information Technology (IT) are becoming increasingly important in organizations. Among them, there is a communication path between internal and external environment. Due to restrictions on speed Internet access, it is common to deploying caching services in order to optimize link usage. One of the most popular services is the cache Squid that, among other functionalities, stores the content accessed in the external environment. However, the efficiency of Squid varies according to traffic patterns, which require the periodic action of an expert to adjust setting parameters. This paper describes the implementation of an adaptive caching system for Squid based on a Simple Genetic Algorithm. The results were satisfactory for the traffic patterns used. The developed system obtains comparable results to the best outcome of an exhaustive search. Thus, our system can be used in several other traffic patterns to define the best values that will offer the highest percentage (possible) of cache hit.
